We present: Gartenbau de Vries

Investments for the future

About Gartenbau de Vries

Since 1995, Gartenbau de Vries has been the producer of the Gardengirls brand. As of January 1, 2025, Jan de Vries will take over the Marohn and Häger nursery as successor and integrate it into his existing business. Under the name Gartenbau de Vries, a total of 18 hectares are now cultivated at two locations in Tange. The nursery offers a diverse range of heather plants for the specialist trade. Customers include, among others, garden centers, horticultural nurseries, cemetery gardeners, trading companies, and smaller flower shops.

Thanks to modern technology – including automatic CC container loading, a cutting robot, and an advanced pricking line – production is especially efficient. A new truck ramp and expanded logistics areas also ensure smooth shipping operations during the peak season. Gartenbau de Vries consistently focuses on sustainability: substrates with up to 70% peat replacement are used for the high quality of the plants. Some production is already completely peat-free.

What's new at de Vries?

In recent years, Gartenbau de Vries has made extensive investments in automation to make production more efficient and future-proof. A cutting robot as well as a newly constructed propagation greenhouse support the work in young plant production and ensure consistently high quality. Logistics processes have also been improved: thanks to automated shipping lines, shipping now takes place entirely under one roof. In 2025, another potting robot was added, capable of potting up to four different colors in all common pot sizes. This makes it possible to further expand the range of heather combinations.

The product range is continuously optimized, with a particular focus on the new, vibrant NEXXT varieties. The assortment is complemented by new packaging solutions, such as 6-cell trays and 4-pack concepts, as well as new combinations like Fluffy Kiss, Vanilla Plum, and several new NEXXT varieties. Additionally, the company NEXXT Plants was founded in collaboration with Jan de Vries, Markus and Axel Hemmje, and Jens Kistela. It serves to further expand young plant production and to distribute the NEXXT varieties to other production companies.

Gartenbau de Vries implements all concepts of the Gardengirls brand. New products are always offered as complete concepts – including printed pots and matching stake labels. The nursery’s product range is continuously expanded. Existing concepts include, among others, “Ewigheid,” which ensures a consistently fresh planting through the combination of different heather species with varying durability, as well as “Halloween Girls,” which presents a mystical autumnal color variety with its foliage-beautiful varieties. The nursery’s goal is to continuously develop new concepts, successfully establish them in the market, and thereby further strengthen the Gardengirls brand. An annual highlight is the variety show held from early August to November on the production site in Ammerland: here, over 80 new and existing varieties, as well as their combinations, are presented.
