Diverse heather cultures

About Gärtnerei Halmans

The Gärtnerei Ludger and Andreas Halmans GbR has been producing heather cultures since 1988 in Kevelaer on the Lower Rhine. On an area of 1.2 hectares in a protected environment as well as on an outdoor area of 13.5 hectares, of which 5 hectares is lava area, Calluna vulgaris and Erica darleyensis are produced. The range also includes Daboecia cantabrica, which are marketed under their own brand "Irish Princess", and Erica sparsa

under the logo "Einfach Königlich". Sustainability and especially careful resource planning play an important role in the nursery. Therefore, the nursery Ludger & Andreas Halmans GbR is Global G.A.P. certified, as well as a member of the successful Kevelaer water protection cooperation.

What's new at Halmans?

Halmans nursery focuses on growth combined with sustainability and efficiency. In the last four years, the areas have been expanded by around 8 hectares of lava surface, from which sustainable benefit is drawn from the modern surface. It promotes the root growth of the plants and favors the drainage of irrigation water. In addition, the company area has grown by another 5.5 hectares with free standing space. Sustainability and environmental protection play a major role in production: Both pots and pallets are fully recyclable

and a photovoltaic system continuously supplies the company with CO2-neutral electricity. Last but not least, wood chips on the pots increase the efficiency in dealing with moss influences and ensure accelerated shipping processing. Halmans' claim is clear: a future-oriented nursery that handles nature's resources with care.
